A bunch of everything!

So apologies for this lame post! I've been going through a lot of my nail polishes and cleaning stuff out. Normally this isn't so bad, but I haven't actually cleaned out my collection since about June 2013. This is difficult because since June 2013, I've been much better about not buying stuff I don't like. But honestly there are things I don't wear that probably need to be given away to better homes. As a result all the polishes I've been wearing lately are ones I'm considering giving away. That makes for bad blog posts if I'm not excited about the polish.

So instead here is a photo dump of all the stuff I've been wearing the last month or so (that I am keeping).

Milani Pink Flare
First off is Milani Pink Flare, my favorite "I have NO idea what polish to wear" polish. It is technically a pink but I love it anyway.
Jamberry Metallic Chrome Silver
My second attempt at Jamberry. Lucky for me, one of my best friends (who I bought the Jamberries from in the first place) was able to help me (as I was visiting her house for the weekend). It turned out much better than last time, but mostly because she got frustrated watching me do it and did it for me herself. I have to admit the filing part doesn't work well if you keep your nails shorter than your fingers (like I do) but if you have someone who is good at it, the definitely seem to last longer. :-)
Zoya Rikki
OMG I was sooo wrong about thinking I wouldn't like Zoya Rikki. SO WRONG. I think you probably need this polish (if you don't already have it).
Deborah Lippman Spring Buds
So the application of this was not great but better than I was expecting based on my nail wheel swatch. Definitely pretty, one of the few cream polishes I haven't wanted to take off right away.
Essie Just Stitched
AHhhhh SO PRETTY. Despite the fact it is a pink, Just Stitched looks amazing especially with top coat. Like most mattes the wear even with top coat isn't great (not that I ever get great wear) but it is quite pretty.
Lastly, a photo of some Artic foxes. Manatees are probably my favorite animal but these guys were too cute not to post. Because it is, after all, a photo dump :-)/

Because this song has been playing in my head the last two days. I'm sure other people get like this but I get obsessed with songs sometimes and for a few days I can't listen to anything but one song. In November I was obsessed with Suede's My Dark Star and Heroine. Well now I'm on a Crowded House kick. This version is probably my favorite. It helps that I much prefer most Split Enz and Crowded House songs live.

Happy Tuesday!

Zoya Haul: January Mystery Trio, New Year New Hue Promotion (plus an extra)

So my Zoya order came in!!!  I ordered mine on the Friday after the promotion started (the 9th) and I just received them in the mail today (2/4/2015). I normally order on the first day of promos like this but I couldn't decide if I really needed any new Zoyas and I finally broke down and bought a couple shades I've been trying not to buy for a while.  Not very sensible, but I've been putting some off buying these colors for a good long while just for no real reason. Perhaps part of it is the fact that as I am from Cleveland and Zoya is from Cleveland; I get really offended when their colors don't work out for me? I'd rather not be dissapointed (as I have in the past with some colors) so I avoid buying them when possible. Such a lame excuse but that's how I roll. Unless I know I'm going to love it, I just avoid them.

Now first, onward to the mystery trio!  It turns out the mystery trio is the Peter Som Fall/Winter 2014 trio. Which I was pleasantly surprised with.
The colors include; [from left to right] Charlott a kahki sort of cream color, Severine a gold shimmer that reminds me of OPI Glitzerland, and Anais which is a browny/black color with a bit of hidden shimmer. I really feel Anais should have been spelled Anise like the spice but whatever. While these colors don't really speak to me that much, I appreciate that these were an old runway collection (of sorts) and that they didn't just throw in discontinued minis. From what I heard the black Friday/cyber Monday mystery bag Zoya put out this past year was just old discontinued colors (and other art of beauty products) which I mean is good if you want some older colors of theirs but it seemed a bit like "oh we might as well clear these out" sort of thing. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep all of the minis, since they aren't my sort of color but they were a nice bonus. [Though I admit I might keep Severine just for the name, because it reminds me of everyone's favorite Potions Master]

Bonus bottle comparison of OPI Glitzerland and Severine. On actual comparison Severine is less foil-y and has a much smoother particle size, and on the swatch wheel a little brush stroke-y. It actually is making me think of Zoya Hermina just less rosey/pinky and more yellow gold. I'd take a photo to compare but I gave that one to my mama and it is at home with her.

Anyway! Onward to the colors I actually selected!

First off is Payton! I apologize for my camera reflection, the lighting is not the best right now for photography (not to mention I was excited and wanted to get this post up already!) Payton is a cranberry sort of color that leans a bit more purple, it reminds me of a jelly version of Nails Inc Great Marlborough Street (and maybe a touch more purple). I'm not one of those people who goes crazy for holographic polishes (I do enjoy them from time to time) but after buying Blaze last year I decided perhaps having another Zoya holo wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Next is Rikki.  I figured I might as well pick up the green foil from their 2013 Irresistible Summer collection. I bought Kerry right when the collection came out at my local salon, not thinking I really needed the other foils (when I know I have a foil problem). Last year I also got Amy and Hazel so I figured might as well get Rikki this time around.
Lastly is Meg. Oh Meg. I nearly bought her multiple times at the salon near where I used to live on campus but I kept telling myself I didn't need her, which is probably true. I tend to only wear dark saturated greens (like Zoya Logan) and while green is my favorite color, I just don't wear non Christmassy green polishes for the most part.  I was very tempted to spend 25 more to get free shipping, but I ended up passing on that, I do want a back up bottle of Kerry, and I've been fighting to not buy Rina since it came out as well. I've also been very tempted to try Zoya Blu (despite my extreme dislike for cream polishes) ... perhaps next promo....

And now for my bonus polish. Today was my day off and after taking Dude's forgotten lunch to him, and before stopping by at the zoo (I have a season pass and today was pretty nice for February)  I stopped at Ulta to check out the clearance. None of the new collections really have been sparking my interest but I always love a good clearance so it was worth a look.

Turns out this Ulta had Deborah Lippmann's on sale. The other Ulta that is a touch closer to me hasn't clearanced any of theirs (to my knowledge). Unfortunatly all of the colors they had left were boring! But I did find a bottle of Spring Buds, and while I despise cream polishes, I've been really wanting an avocado-y sort of green (like Essie Navigate Her) and it was on sale for $1.25 so I couldn't resist. Especially since I've never tried Deborah Lippmann polishes and I am curious about all the hype they get.  I mean while I do own a couple Chanel and Dior polishes, I can't seem to spend 18 on a polish.

Here it is! In this lighting it looks a bit less yellow than it actually is.
Here it is next to Charlott, it looked a bit too ecru to me by itself. And I have to say, just from swatching Spring Buds on my swatch wheel, I'm not too impressed with the formula, it was not terribly easy to work with and was kind of thick. The color I quite like. So I will have to wait and see how it really performs once I put it on my nails. I'm probably being hyper critical because of all the love these get.

~edit: I was just reading beautygeeks and apparently Karen hates this formula, so that makes me feel better about being critical.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my haul, I've never posted a haul before but I figured I might as well share as it was a very exciting nail polish day for me. Happy Wednesday!
